To submit your site to the Google Directory, you first need to submit to the Open Directory Project – http://www.dmoz.org/

This Directory is the largest and most comprehensive on the Internet, and it is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors and again is a free service.

Once in the site you then browse to find the category that best suits your website. It is advisable to wait until your website is complete before submitting to the directory.

It’s also really important that you read the rules for submission which you can read here: http://www.dmoz.org/add.html

When you have found the category you want for your site the next step is to click on “Suggest URL”.  It’s advisable to do a quick search to see if your site is already listed. Then you simply follow the instructions on how to submit

It may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo Search, and hundreds of other sites.  Updated data is released weekly by the Open Directory Project but partner sites will update in their own time

Your website will then show up in the Google Directory. The Google Directory is not run by Google; they only use data from the Open Directory Project.

Once you have been accepted you can go back at a later stage and update your information if you are unhappy with your content or things have changed.
